TITLE: Shelter Attendant

JOB PURPOSE:

Ensures a high-quality Homeless Shelter by maintaining safety and cleanliness according to established rules and regulations. Creates a responsible, positive, safe, and healthy environment amongst clients and fellow staff.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

C) Be punctual for scheduled work and remain alert at all times, sleeping or the appearance of sleeping is strictly prohibited.

F) Keep work area neat/clean and maintain a professional appearance
G) Be thoroughly knowledgeable of all Bread of Life policies and procedures.
H) To accept shared responsibility with other employees to successfully accomplish common goals.
I) To assure quality in work performed in order to facilitate the delivery of quality services.
J) Maintain confidence and protect Bread of Life by keeping information concerning clients and shelter operations confidential.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain a safe and clean shelter, assign, and encourage clients to help with daily chores and monitor follow through.
  2. Enforce shelter rules while treating clients with sensitivity, respect, and dignity.
  3. Work with Case Managers to develop individual action plans. writing warnings, etc.
  4. Screen clients as they come in. Conduct intakes, help clients fill out applications when necessary and complete all required documentation.
  5. Respond to public telephone inquiries.
  6. Perform periodic safety and security checks throughout building and property (check parking lot for unauthorized vehicles, playground toys, door alarms, smoke detectors, fire exits, escapes and extinguishers, security lights). Document any issues and report to Site Supervisor.
  7. Forward mail and donations to necessary departments.
  8. Update log with shift issues and complete reports when needed.
  9. Complete required bed checks at the beginning and end of assigned shift.

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS NEEDED FOR POSITION:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Experience working with people with diverse backgrounds including persons with disabilities, behavioral health issues, and families with children
