Bread of Life offers a home feel in our shelters to welcome YOU!
The Bread of Life ESHAP (Emergency Shelter Homeless Assistance Program) is funded through MaineHousing providing space for the unhoused to gain the footing they need to get housed. Bread of Life has onsite case management and shelter attendants to help residents land in a safe space and reach their goals while mitigating the many roadblocks they face.

The Bread of Life enviroment
Case management works directly with each person, to develop a plan of care providing the resources to help people become self-sustainable, develop a budget, set goals for developing a housing plan including potential housing vouchers, and address the barriers that lead them to homelessness.
We collaborate with an employment specialist to help families find employment that fits their needs while also considering the needs of the children.

40 emergency shelter beds for families with children, and single adults.
Everyone who enters our shelter is provided with a new bed in bag, pillow, towels, and hamper that they take with them when they leave. Bread of Life has a total of 8 private bedrooms specifically for families with children.
Each family has their own private room, which is located on a separate floor from our single clients. We have a children’s playroom where only family clients are allowed to have access. We also have an outside play area that includes a playground, a basketball area, and multiple different grassy (or snowy) lawns.
Our Veterans Shelter

14 emergency shelter beds for veterans in need.
Staff work directly with VA Maine (Togus) to coordinate services for veterans experiencing homelessness.
Bread of Life provides a 'home' atmosphere with ample food, a communal table to eat together, comfortable living room and outside space to relax. We provide free Wi-Fi access for our clients along with a computer station to assist with housing and employment searches, etc.
Bread of Life also provides education opportunities in our skills building to aid veterans with financial literacy, cooking classes, AA meetings, group meetings, gardening, woodworking, public speaking, family planning, nutrition classes and many more therapeutic group activities.

At Bread of Life, we go above and beyond to support every client we serve.
Our shelter is dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging and stability by engaging children in positive, pro-social activities. We believe that every child deserves the joy and excitement of traditional holiday celebrations, regardless of their circumstances.
We strive to create an environment that mirrors the warmth and connection of a healthy family.
By ensuring our clients experience meaningful traditions and community events, we help bridge the gap between shelter life and the comfort of a nurturing home. At Bread of Life, no child should feel disconnected from the love and normalcy every family deserves.
